Ok! So today, I gave a presentation in Church talking in depth about Coll, Project Trust and what I'll be doing while I'm in China. At the end, I invited people to stay and watch the 10 minute video made by Project Trust (there's a link to it in the first blog I wrote) and at that moment when people were gathering to see the video and ask me more questions, I really realised how much my community are behind me. I've stressed that they are all my friends and not just acquaintances many times as I've grown up knowing all of them. But thankfully, they are all interested in what I'm doing and even people who I didn't know as well were coming up to me at the end of the service asking for smartie tubes (the plan of the smartie tubes is that people eat the smarties then fill them up with either 20p or £1 coins) and people were even asking for more than one each in order to spread them around their friends so I can get a much more beneficial result.
Also, after the service, people were coming up to me offering me things like tin baths that I could use for my bath of noodles idea and offering me advice and ideas for events which I am so thankful for.
A few days ago, I got an email from my online fundraising website - http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/marysquibb feel free to donate! - giving me ideas of how to raise money and one of them instantly grabbed me. It is called 'London to Paris 24' and is known as the ultimate endurance cylce challenge. The whole route covers 280 miles starting at London Blackheath and finishing at the Eiffel Tower and the aim is to finish the route in 24 hours. They say that most of the people involved are in a relay team of 2 (2 being the maximum) so I suggested this to my boyfriend - who is also going abroad with PT, to Cambodia - and he is as excited as me to take part. Hopefully after months of training, we'll be able to go and complete the 280 miles together whilst raising money for both of us!
I have also started organising a professional piano concert starring my piano teacher Christopher Weston. We have thought about a venue we could hold it and a programme we could use, and are planning to hold this event in April, giving him time to work up a good repertoire between his busy life!
Also during the last week, me and my Mum have visited local sweet shops and they kindly donated big sweet jars. I will now create a small poster to attach onto each jar and put them on the counter of every local pub and shop - I will also be getting in contact with our local Chinese restaurant and talk to them about possibly hiring them to supply food at events such as the piano concert - I'm sure they'll be very interested and helpful, they could event teach me the basics of speaking Mandarin!
So overall, it's been a very good and productive past month and I have raised over £500 so far. Considering I haven't yet held any fundraising events, that's a very good figure. However I am sure that once I have gotten the ball rolling in terms of events, I will reach my target in no time!
